WHY do people hate gravel vacuums so much?

I don't get it...
THEY ARE SO EASY TO USE
All you do is fill up the tube with water
Put one end in the tank
And put the other end in a bucket.
I have -NEVER- had any trouble with these AT ALL.
They're so EASY to use.
Then people are always complaining about how they can't use them and the vacuum won't start.
I don't get it.
For smaller tanks I just use a turkey baster....But why are gravel vacuums "so hard to use"???

because I have sand XD
and with my tiny tanks an airline and a syringe does the same job :P

I'm just kidding... I don't need it. And with planted tanks they're uneccessary. But I'm sure that they're 200% useful for a gravel based tank.

For me, it's mainly that no matter what method I used on the self-priming ones, somehow, I always ended up sucking on the end of the tube. Which is why I swapped over to a pump start--I got tired of drinking the fish water. :-p

I loved mine at first it self primed very well and after 2 uses it stopped working that way and I have to suck on it, also mine stopped being as powerful and won't suck anything up anymore and I can't for the life of me figure out why. It takes an hour to drain 20% if the tank its that slow it used to take me 20 minutes tops.

I love it too. I guess my tube is long enough so that when I give it a quick suck I can get away before the water starts to come out. The gunk that gets vacuumed up is amazing.

It I get more tanks I'll get a pump one but yeah mine has worked very well so far. I haven't had to suck on the bottom of the hose yet, god willing I never will. I don't think my hose would be long enough to spare me from fish water in my mouth. I love my fish but I don't want to drink his water...in a healthy state of mind anyways.
