ok. Let me explain this.. A Betta Splendens builds a Bubble Nest out of instinct to establish there territory. Even though a Sick or "Dieing Betta might make a bubblenest they won't make one often. Compare this to a healthy, active and happy Betta. A healthy and happy Betta will make them more often and a larger percentage of Healthy/happy bettas will make them. So while it can't be used as a definite sign of health and happiness it can be used as a slight indication or it *might mean he is happy or healthy. The majority of my old Breeder males still did make them but not as often and they made small bubblenests.. So an indicator of age can factor in why a Betta may or may not be making a bubblenest... This is just a thought.. While I do somewhat agree with LTB's thread.. I still am sticking by the side of a large percentage/majority of healthy males will make a bubblenest with the right conditions.. But only a small percentage of sick and not properly housed males will make bubblenests.. If you were to walk into my fish area... A large majority of my males that are kept with adequate care and are young make bubblenests. But if you were to walk into my local LFS, LPS, Petsmart, or Petco.. Probably about 5 Out of 100 fish actually have a bubblenest
