Thanksgiving Vacation

So, I got my fish a few weeks ago and I need to know what to do during Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks. They will stay in my house as I can't transport them with me. For Thanksgiving I will be gone for four days, and Christmas I will be gone for two and my family would rather feed the fish to the cats than feed and do water changes.

I've seen the vacation pellets in the pet store, but I don't know if they work or are worth it. They'll be in the divided cycled ten gallon tank, so I can do water changes before I leave so ammonia won't be too bad, but is there any thing else I should do for them before I leave? I'll leave my curtains open so they can have natural light as I don't have a timer for their hood light.

Give them a bigger than normal meal before you leave.

They can go a while without food, 4 days should be fine. Those tablet food thingys just cloud up the water for me and don't feed the fish like they are supposed to. Just do a water change and they should be fine. I've once left them for 8 days (it was only supposed to be 7 but traffic slowed us down an entire day) and my bettas were fine.

I agree but too long without food is bad maybe you could convince someone to come in and feed him ounce.

Four days without food is totally fine, don't worry. And no food means the tank won't get too messy, either.

I hear that bettas can go with out food for three weeks. Mine has gone that long with out eating. He is sick though. Poor guy. 4 days would be fine.

mines gone ten days without food... or if you really want buy him a few ghost shrimps to snack on if he needs...

Yup, feed them before you leave and they should be fine for a few days without food or water changes - especially in a cycled 10G

They can go several weeks without food if they had to

you can do a vacation feeder thing but I have heard they are not really good for fish

In there natural habitat during the summer there is a low amount of food.
