Trying everything I can, any more suggestions?

I posted a few days about about my little rescue Rico not doing so well.

Well, its all been downhill. I was testing his water, keeping up with his water changes. He was doing SO well and was super healthy. Then over the course of a day, he fell VERY ill. He was laying on the bottom, breathing very very heavily. Then his fins became very clamped. I did huge water changes and acclimated him to the water every time. I stopped adding the salt and continued day after day changing his water. He was eating, and now he's stopped.

He is floating on his side at the top, skinny as a stick and barely moving. His fin are clamped right up next to him. I took him out of the tank and I was thinking of doing a 100% water change and keep him in a little heated bucket while I worked on his tank. I'm trying so hard I just don't know whats wrong with him :[ His ammonia and nitrite levels were barely visible in the liquid test kit I have. The nitrate was about 10ppm the last time I checked. Which was yesterday.

I'm just lost now, I don't know what to do. Everything that I deem beneficial seems to make him worse...

Someone please help poor Rico :[

Floating on his side?

Is he swollen anywhere? Does he attempt to go after the food or does he just ignore it?

We also need a bit more information...could you link your older post if it has information like his tank size, tank temp, water change schedule and such things?

He's thin as paper, no bulges. I know its not his swim bladder.

Here is this, in case anyone was wondering:
Housing
What size is your tank? 3.5 gallon
What temperature is your tank? Anywhere between 81-84 daily.
Does your tank have a filter? No
Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration? No
Is your tank heated? Yes, Hydor 15watt slim heater
What tank mates does your betta fish live with? No one.

Food
What type of food do you feed your betta fish? frozen blood worms, new life spectrum pellets
How often do you feed your betta fish? Normally twice a day, small meals, but sometimes if I am super busy, just once in the morning.

Maintenance
How often do you perform a water change? Because it doesn't have a filter, I try to do a 50-75% once every 3 days.
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change? see above
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change? Because he's new and his fins are a wreck, he looks kinda sickly and clamped from when I got him, I've been putting in API Stress Coat water conditioner and a little aquarium salt. But since he's gotten this way, I've stopped the aquarium salt.

Water Parameters:
Have you tested your water? If so, what are the following parameters?

Ammonia: When I tested it, the color BARELY showed up in my drop kit, it was like, maybe, .05, so I did a water change, 30% and tested again and it didn't show up.
Nitrite: None
Nitrate: It was about 10ppm before the water change, didn't test that one again, but I'm gonna says its probably now between 5-7ppm
pH: 7.4
Hardness: N/A
Alkalinity: N/A

Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed? Faded color, no long comes to the top, panting on the bottom, laying on side
How has your betta fish's behavior changed? See above.
When did you start noticing the symptoms? This morning
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how? I did a water change
Does your fish have any history of being ill? I got his as an ill rescue
How old is your fish (approximately)? I really don't know, I got him about a week and half ago.

I wish I knew how to help you more but sounds like you are doing all the right things you can for him. I hope he makes it keep us posted and maybe someone will come along with some more ideas of what to do for him. Good luck !

The only thing I can think is the temp being 81-84 there is a lil gap and if it's a lil on the higher side, 84 could be a lil too much, and he could be overheating, but if you have an adjustable heater, I would take it down to 78-79 for a couple of hours and see if he gets more active, try to feed a lil more 1x a day is not enough, he will not have enough energy, try to spread out his pellets, at least 2x a day at 2 pellets per feeding..that will keep him healthier, and keep up his energy..BW's are only a treat, and should only be fed 1x a week or every other week. I hope he recovers, please let us know..Good luck:)
