Huge betta?

Ok so a person whom i bought some tanks from a ways back decided to get out of the hobby completely. He had a betta and offered to give everything he had to me along with Simon, a vt.

Problem was, he looked near death..i mean white spots all over his fins...new growth not ich... but had some serious fin rot and so on.

So he is in IAL now and enjoying his spa treatment hoping it will get the fin-rot at bay. I am too worried to use chems and as ive successfully fully treated it before with only IAL i thought id try and see if hed improve in a few days.

now i digress.. I have had plenty of bettas, and have some now...first thing i noticed..even before his state was his size. hes not yet 2 and hes huge in comparison with my other bettas.

i mean brutus...whos well near a year old now is smaller all together than Simon's body...he looks like a pygmy fish beside him. xD

Has anyone had king bettas or large bettas? what size is considered king?

this is him as a baby

His body is about 3 inches...not including his fins. I seem to recall reading kings are usually pk? or only pk? but he is huge and i have had bettas well into 5 years of age and never this big.

O.o Just curious

Tried to take one but as the tannin is so dark its no clear. xD I will do a water change and as soon as its dark outside ill just tuirn the tank lights in the hope that itll brighten it up. May try sooner if it lightens up considerably.

I have a Red VT that is huge too, long fins, and 2-3 inch body..approx..and he is probably a yr I dont really know I took him in as a rescue..but if you lookin my albums his name is Crimson..he is my big baby..super gentle, but I know "King" bettas are usually only PK bodies. But VT's can grow quite large.

icky photo but got as much tannin out as i could and cam sucks. The pk is just under a year old. easily dwarfed by the vt...which is also farther from the cam.

kings are just a brand-naming that Petco uses for unusually large PK's and HMPK's that don't carry Giant genetics. he's just a HUGE VT, it's unusual but not unheard of. great find though, he's a beauty of a monster.

I figure its just a random utation like in some animals and so on for size. Simon is such a cute name for a monster betta xD he is in horrible condition though, the IAL is helping so I have high hopes!
