in this section. This should be easy, but it might be nice for some reassurance. We have a sensational Quartertail in a 10 gallon tank, and it has a 10 gallon heater that I purchased from Wal-mart a few months ago. Here in the STL,Mo. metro area, fall is very much happening, so the temps have dropped into the 50s the last few nights. The thermometer reads at 78 currently, but I'm concerned because I'm not seeing the orange light that indicates that the heater is on. I read that it's set on 78, but earlier it was 76, and no indicator that the heater was functioning? I'm just kinda being safer, than sorry. Am I just being overly concerned? Thanks in advance! Go Cardinals!

Hi and welcome to the forum! I think you will find that most of us are overly concerned with our betta fish...we worry so much! lol That being said, the preset heaters won't actually keep your water at exactly the temp they say..it will usually keep it about 6 or 7 degrees above ambient room temp. I have not had to use any heaters yet, but the two I bought so far a adjustable for this very reason...I don't trust the preset ones. I would suggest keeping him in the warmest, most stable temp room in the house. I moved all of my bettas to the living room because I like my bedroom really cool at night. But again, it is after midnight here, and still 82 degrees out lol.
Thanks very much! We've lost two others in the past, so just tryin' to play it safe. The room temp is set at 72, but as of now, the tank temp is still 78. I now plan to get an adjustable heater for that tank soon, better safe than sorry. Let's hope for the best, good night all!

I think if the room stays at 72, and the heater is so far keeping up..you are good to go! Good night!
