Strange behaviour

This morning I go up to Fishy's tank and she stops what she's doing, looks at me for a few seconds, floats on to her side with her head upright (that's really the best I can explain it, at first it looked like she was having trouble staying upright and that's why she was keeping her head that way), then she flares at me. She stays in that position for a little while, then finally decides to swim to the top for a breath of air. After which she swam off with no problems at all. I went back about 20 minutes later and she flared at me again at that funny angle, then went about her business. She's flared at me a few more times today, but these times she was in an upright position.
What was that all about? Why would a betta turn on their sides to flare? She has flared before, but it was always in the upright position. I've never seen a fish swim like that, and then be ok.

Just a note, she has a new tank light, and I wear glasses most of the time and contacts sometimes, but she's never flared at me before with my glasses before. She never flares at a mirror, so if she was seeing a reflection, that would be a first for flaring at reflections. Also, like I said, she's never "rolled" onto her side with her head upright to flare.
