IAL's & water changes

I just placed half an IAL (3-4") in each of my 3 gallon betta tanks. I am currently doing 70% water changes on 2 of my bettas, one has tail rot and the other im trying to heal from torn/ripped fins...so how long til I replace the half leaves? I would imagine I wouldnt replace the leave at each water change right?

I usually leave them in until after they've sunk and they're starting to disintegrate/decompose a lot. This takes about 2 weeks. If you notice them getting excessively slimy or something remove them early.

I like to change mine once week when I do the weekly water change.
