The Game Plan For my HM!

Hey everybody!

Sorry for making so many threads lately!


I will be getting my HM this week and want to make sure this sounds like a good setup. Note: Obviously, i cant cycle a 3 gallon tank, so he will be put in a couple of hours after letting the tank run, and i will just keep up on water changes. I can only fit a 3 gallon right now but i will upgrade in the future, or divide my 10 gal. later.

So, without further udo, the 'game plan':

-The tank will be bare-bottom

-decoration ideas, i prefer natural

-does 1 50% and 1 100% a week sound ok?

-also, any good small heaters?

-I also plan on buying NLS

And of course, cant forget Honeycomb! Not only will he too be getting NLS, but he will get some new decorations too!

So yeah, thats about it!

I am super excited, and appreciate all forms of advice, and feel free to correct me if im wrong!

Actually, any tank under 5 gallons can be able to cycle. It just may be unstable for a while. I have successfully cycled my 3.5 gallon so any questions, feel free to ask!

Add some plants... Maybe you can get some terra cotta pots and put some sand in there and plant..? Drift wood is also great. :)

The water change schedule will defer since the tank is filtered, you'll need to decide if you want it to be cycled or not.

Hydor THEO heaters are good. Highly recommended on this forum and I have one.

NLS is the best food around in the pellet forms so awesome! :D

You can do 2 50% changes per week. That's ideal, do you have a test kit..? You can do water changes whenever ammonia shows up. But make sure not to do change every day, that's really stressful to the Betta. And, no probs! :)

Pretty much, if you can get plants that will help. But add them on the 2nd week.

ok sounds good! I have never had live plants before, besides Marimo moss balls, and those thrive for me!

I only have the strips "tests" but they suck so i dont use them anymore.

Hmm...could i add plants with a bare-bottom tank?
