Tank/Heater dilemma

I had been planning on buying a new tank for Mori since it's very hard to keep a stable temp in the 2 gallon critter keeper he's currently in. Not only am I pretty torn between the two, but I am also in the market for a new heater. Would I need a 50 watt heater for the bookshelf tank? I have a feeling I'm going to buy the heater before the tank, so I need to think about that as well. :/

So I had another question. I know a 25 watt heater is supposed to be good for up to 5 gallons, but can a 50 watt heater also be used on a 5 gallon tank? I found a really good buy on a 50 watt and I want to be sure before I get it.

I have a 50 watt adjustable heater in a 2.5 working fine for me.
