I've heard a couple users talk about buying an established filters online. Does anyone have experience doing this? I'm not really interested in buying one, since both of my tanks are either cycled or in the process of being cycled. I looked on one website but none of them give a lot of information as to how much they cost, how they ship them, etc.
Try to find out if your state has an aquarium society or local fishkeeping website with message boards. I'm sure someone near you would be willing to give you old filter media for free. Then you can just add the media to the new filter to get it established.
I would feel I wasn't much in control and it would be too difficult to determine where your "next problem came from". I would say, if you do things properly, and not shortcut...no one does it better. Listen for advice of course.
People are going online to a company who sells cycled filters. I am not interested in purchasing one, I was just curious if anyone had experience or knew anything about them.
