Film on top of aquariums?Recently changed filters....

Hey everybody!

Since i recently got my HMDT, i picked up a few things at Walmart.

In both my tanks i know have whisper 10i internal filters, as i took the HOB off the 10 just to see if this internal one is better. I stuffed the filter media from the HOB into the internal, to retain the cycle.

After about a day, i noticed like this film over the surface with various things in it. Is it because there is not enough surface current??My 3 gal seems to have it too.....

I feed Omega One betta buffet and change the 10 gal once a week 25% and the 3 gal. twice a week 1 50% and 1 100%

Any ideas? My fish seem unaffected...

Considering you feed a high quality food, It is probably protein film.

Make sure no food is left over after feedings and yeah I'd say you probably dont have enough surface current.

should i put the internal in WITH the HOB? In the 10 gal

and yes, lol, i do get paranoid when feeding, but i only feed 3-4 pellets a day, and make sure the betta eat them, as my 3 Gal. has a bare-bottom

I believe I have the same internal filter in my 5 gallon. It was an absolute mess when I cycled it. It had a good suction on it, but the water coming out of it did not break the water very well. I was cycling with fish food, and anything on the surface just circulated around where the waterfall broke the tank water. I tried adjusting the filter to where it sat up high enough to break the water more, but that did not seem to work. It wasn't until the water in the tank started evaporating that things started to change. The surface became covered in bubbles (like large bubble nests). As the water evaporated more, everything eventually cleared up. Now, it is divided and I have even baffled the intake and outflow since it is pretty strong for a divided tank. It still only breaks the water in one little spot, so there is still a protein film. It is nowhere near as bad as it was when I cycled the tank though. It goes away with each water change, and slowly comes back. Here's a thread I started on it.
