Suckerfish and other questions

A friend of mine had 3 sucker fish, 2 of which she gave away to her friends. Now there is one left and it's in a .5 gallon bowl.

I might take him only because I have the largest tank.

Now yes, he will most likely go in my 5 gal. Yes, I understand it might be too much. HOWEVER, I am capable of doing changes often and I do have an ammonia tester to see how bad the water does get. If things do NOT work out, I will remove the fish and return it to the original owner OR find him a new owner if she doesn't want him.

I would like to know what he is, exactly. He's been there for a few weeks I believe and there hasn't been any size change last I saw.

Also, I have a Deep Blue Heatstick heater a friend gave me. Can someone give me the upsides and downsides of said heater? It's not adjustable, but it says it works for up to 5 Gallons. Thanks!

as i posted in that other thread, plecos get HUGE. Oscar was over a foot long when he passed, and i've heard they can eat other fish. :I
