Red face Hello from Illinois!

Hey everyone!
I'm quite new to these forums. I joined today as I was looking for info on dropsy.

Let's see, I got my first betta about 3 years ago. He was a lovely male betta who lived for about a year and died of an unknown cause. After he died I was really upset. I love animals, and even the death of a fish brings me to tears. So I didn't get another betta for quite some time.

A year ago I got a female veiltail which I named Captain. She's a spoiled one, being my first betta in so long and I'm really attached to her. Sadly, I think her health might be slowly declining, I'm still investigating that.

Over the summer I bought a male CT Black Orchid Betta, named him Bruce since I had just seen Batman and I thought the name suited him well. I had to do some detective work on this little guy because I was told he was a little over a month old, which was obviously not true since he had full grown fins. So, he's estimated to be around a year old.

A little over a month ago I bought A small CT female. I wasn't planning on buying her. I was at petsmart one day and I noticed that they have now started selling "Betta Fry" and they were in terrible conditions. I couldn't help myself and decided that I had to at least take one home to try to help. I picked this little girl because she was in the worst condition out of all of them. I put her in a .25 gallon and started treating her. At first I was certain she wasn't going to make it, but about 4 days after I started noticing her health start to come back and well, she's still with me today and in good health! I named her Dagny.

And that's it... Wow, sorry if that's a long intro. I could go on for days about my bettas.
I'm glad to have joined and hope to contribute and learn as much as possible about bettas.

Cool Is there a question about dropsy

I have good news and bad news , the good news dropsy, I have found doesnt hit all your bettas like ick ,or some other parasite and shouldnt because your Bettas should always be separated , with there own source of water. I don't care what anyone says every time I had a fish who got dropsy he was eatting dry flake or pellet ,or a very old batch of frozen brine... I believe if you feed your fish live food, small guppie fry, mollie fry, they will be fine. once they have it,its almost a death sentence,I have saved fish with dropsy but they were never the same again 1 gallon of distilled water, four table spoons of aquarium salt, pour some in a small bowl and dip your betta 4 to 6 times a day for,4 to 6 minutes, even if they look fine keep doing it. forever. yes its half an hour a day ,you said you love your fish ,so do It. Most medicines for parasites is posion, avoid them at all cost. if you use them use them like it says and finish treatment. Good luck Bettaworldfighters@weebly.com Alex.
