Tank Reflection

We've only just gotten our Betta Fish and he seems to be enjoying his new home. However, we've noticed that he does spend a lot of time staring down and trying to intimidate his reflection in the glass wall of the tank. While it's adorable, we are concerned he'll stress himself out or even exhaust himself as a result.

Is this just normal behavior for him that should not give us cause to concern, or is there something we should be doing?

it shouldn't be a problem. but watch him for a while. if you think he isnt stopping ( say after a day) simply turn off the tank lights to reduce glare

That's normal for some fish. I have some that never flare at all and others that flare constantly.

It's funny, my betta was the same. I was worried after a bit so I placed one of my light green dinner placemats on the backside of the tank and he stopped. Ever since using that whenever I tried something new he would flare... e.g. A towel, the dull side of foil slightly crumpled, the laminated backgrounds sold at the LFS, I gave up and left the dinner placemat lol.
