IMO/E-Yes, you can spawn a 2 year old...I have spawned even older Betta-both male and female without any issues.

I have never found problems with older females. As long as they are still agile and healthy, there really is not a problem. Males should preferably be younger than two years, but again it also depends on the fish him or herself

The only question I would bring up is the size difference.. I have a pair who wants to breed together so bad that she continuously gives herself a concussion trying to get over to him lol. But she is very much bigger than him, even though he is a year older than her.
Would the wrapping be hampered by a larger female?

It is better if the male and female are about the same size, however, if there is a will there is a way....lol....I have had successful spawns with mixed sized both male and female. I had a female so much bigger and rotund than the male and it took them several days of attempts-but they got it done. Same with a much larger male to female..it is harder and it can sometimes frustrate them and they attack each other.

Bigger as in length or thickness? I've had my large *thick* plakat bred to a smaller VT, and though it seemed a lot more awkward than another pair I bred (small female to larger male) they ended up producing about the same amount of surviving fry. I think size is not only to ensure the male is not intimidated but is able to curve over top of the female - since we know males do not actually squeeze the eggs out but merely wraps the female up :)

I will say having at least one in the pair to be experienced made it easier - Meagan had three spawns (though the dads ate the eggs, except one spawn) and with each time she was more calm, willing and resilient to the young male's inexperience :)

lol the two that want to mate so bad share a divided tank, the female is huge, body length and width, and the male is a tad bit shorter but he has the curve on his back from age and a big pot belly.. for some reason I can't imagine those two being able to accomplish much :P
