Diagnosis?

I have investigated both of them with the tank LED lights, which are quite bright and emit a clean white light. No trace of the typical "dusting", only the shining patches across the head. It seems to be relatively normal coloration for a veil, but it is still concerning. The fin clamping has been bugging me since day one. He does have a black band running down the edge of his tail, probably 2-3mm wide. This raises the question of fin rot (or not). It is not overly evident from the photo I posted, but it is definitely there.

Couple of updated pics. One showing the gold coloration in question, and another showing the condition of the tail fin. Should better pics be required yet, I will snap a few with our preposterously powerful DSLR.

Aquarium salt and IAL is safer but you will need a heater colder water weakens immune system.

jungle sells a velvet specific medication. you can try that .

I doubt it is velvet but then again never had velvet also more water changes will help.

Alright. Our veil seems to be perking up considerably. Still tweaking my water samples in an attempt to find a system that will provide spot on PH. No, I'm not experimenting on the tank water. Aquarium salts seem to have brought him up to speed.

Unfortunately, our crown is still rather under the weather. I am beginning to see just how poor their tank conditions were prior to my purchasing them. He seems to be trailing an intestinal parasite. Long, white strand. There is always the possibility of constipation, though I would like the opinion of the community.
