I have read in multiple Betta and aquarium books how temp rapidly changes in small bodies of water and no good betta keeper would betta keeper would permenantly keep there betta in a .5 gallon tank.

Permanently, no. But a small tank could be used for temporary housing that still requires heating, such as a hospital tank.

I do but I also dont have the plug ins I realize they make heaters for tanks that small but it is very hard to keep such a small tank stable the leading cause of betta death is diseases related to lack of excerise.

Yes, the 50 watt Elite should be just fine.

I do believe aokashi has it and its pretty much the same as the 25 watt anyway.

you looking on amazon? either 25 or 50 (under the 25w url) will be ok. they're actually xactly the same.

I had a 50 watt Hydor Theo in a 2 gallon tank for a while with no problems. If you can't find the 25w version of the Elite, which may be a little less expensive, then the 50 works just fine, as Aokashi says. The good thing about buying the 50w version is that if you ever decide to upgrade to a 3 to 5 gallon tank, you can re-use your heater in the new tank.
