My Betta Story

One night I was very lonely and lost. I fired up my browser & started searching for "small pets" since I live in a small house. I got to know about betta. I had always thought fishes are dumb & they can't companions which was very quickly proven wrong as I started digging deeper. I watched videos, read forums without realizing it was 4am in the morning & I forced myself to sleep.

Next morning I told my mom "I am getting a tank today" & she reminded me of a tank which was in attic. The one I used to have gold fishes in when I was in college. I right away cleaned the tank & set it up before I left for work. On the way back I went to a pet store & picked up a betta (still struggling for a name!). Though I had read somewhere which suggests to pick up a betta which is vibrant, somehow i just picked up this little guy after looking at all of them for 20 mins (the guy at that shop was pissed at me!!). he is dull in colours, weird mix of dark blue & little red. He is so dark that I can't figure out where he is when he is in front of the filter (no tank lights as of now)!

For couple of days he was scared, he used to run away when he sees my fingers! (Again, I had broken the rule of picking up the betta which follows your finger which I read somewhere.) But today, he started to feel comfortable. Comes towards my hands looking for pallets. I am so happy.

Some challenges I am facing:
I live in Bangalore, India. Betta keeping doesn't seem to be popular over here & hence finding medicines, water conditioners & food is a bit of a challenge. The shop I picked him up from had only "Optima Betta Food" which I am feeding him right now. I checked on ebay.in (Ebay India) for better betta food, though some of them are available it costs 4-6 times more than what listed on US websites like Amazon and Petsmart.

So I wanted to check if any of you guys can suggest me what to feed him & in which online store I can find it which has international shipping. As of now I have placed an order for HBH Betta Bites which will take some time to reach me since it has to come from US.

I feel great to be part of this community & I don't think I will feel lonely anymore!

Oh that is wonderful, that you have a betta friend, I will take a look around to see what I can find for sites for you..this is a great forum, you will learn a lot, and you will have many happy times with your new family member:) Please post some pix, if you can would love to see him..does he have a name yet? E-bay might have some things you are looking for..you may want to try there..I hope it helps for now..:)

Ok, so just read, yea, you checked E-bay..ok, Amazon, and Dr Fosters and Smith are pretty good, not sure if Int'l but worth a look:)

He flared yesterday at mirror!!
He didn't the first day when he came home.
His fins looks bigger than what it looked first day and his colors are getting brighter/showing up.

Will post pictures when I get hold of a good camera
