strange growth on tank

i came over to visit my daughter and when i went to look at Midnight the Betta boy, the front of his tank as this growth of algae or some weird mold. when we bought the tank a few weeks ago i did also buy a live plant for Midnight's home. What do i do? Midnight has to go around it to look at us and vice a versa. They don't sell no tank snails and I am too scared to clean the tank because in the past i have killed gold fish. I dont want to accidentally kill Midnight either. Help

Well to get the betta out I use the cup that they came from the pet-store in but my betta Tiki has recently out grown this so I use clear plastic drinking cups to get him out and that works well and he sits in the cup and watches me clean the tank. If your betta can live with this mold on the side of its house I'm sure it will be fine for you to touch so no worries there, but yes, the plastic cup works fine. :P Hope it helps!
