Hey all, just came to the forum today to find out what some good tank mates for my Betta would be and figured I'd introduce myself properly. I've had aquariums since I was around 10 years old when my dad bought me a 28g and let me pick out all the cool fish for it. He then got a 55g and 90g for himself which I always helped out with, I loved watching all the fish. The cichlids we had in the 90g even had babies and some survived for generations, it was awesome.
I now have graduated from college and have had a 10g aquarium for about 4 years now. It has always been planted with a Betta fish. My first was a beautiful blue Crowntail I got from Petsmart, but he died after about 2 years when I changed about 50% of the water from the tank because of a problem with algae. I then purchased a red Halfmoon but he kept getting finrot even after I treated the tank and cleaned it thoroughly. He did get better for about a year and his fins grew back substantially but I went on vacation over the summer for about a week and let my friend take care of him and he got it again and didn't make it. :(
About 2 weeks ago I cleaned the tank and got some new plants and decor for it. I got a new Betta from Petsmart last weekend, and I absolutely love him. He was the only one I could find that was black, and at first I was walking around with a Blue Halfmoon but I spotted him on a cart with a bunch of others in a separate aisle and had to get him! Hes a double-tail and I love his metallic sheen on his fins, it turns all sorts of color in the light. The pictures just don't do him justice =P I've named him Cinder. He also has 4 Green Corys as tank mates, which I was skeptical about at first because my first blue Crowntail attacked the Corys mercilessly when I tried it with him and I had to give them away.

Anyways, hope to see you all around!
