Torn gill flap?

I have a crown tail dragon scale male. well i have several fish but his gill flap...thing tore while he was flaring. or at least that's what it seems to be. he seems to be acting fine however that one side of his gill is still partially extended. I am wondering if this will heal up ok? what treatment would be best. and is this particularly uncomfortable for him?

I had to go out of town! D: im back now and he still seems fine, about to do a full water change. the gill flap on his right side seems a little better but is still poking out a bit. here's the best info i can provide of what you asked.

Housing
What size is your tank? 1 gal.
What temperature is your tank? room temp. 74-80 im guessing ( my room doesn't have air-conditioning )
Does your tank have a filter? no
Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration? no

Food
What type of food do you feed your betta fish? pellets, flakes and blood worms ( i mix it up from time to time)
How often do you feed your betta fish? 6 days week. im told a fasting day is healthy

Maintenance
How often do you perform a water change?2-3 times a week at and always one is a full water change.
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change? at least 50%
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change?aqua safe i think i dont have it with me...

Awesome, well I believe he may have strained himself... Much like we would strain our backs or necks from over working. If you find he flares too much, find the cause and try to counteract it... Using a white or black paper/fabric to block reflections (some colors cause more or less, as do different materials). Play around with different methods and ways, to see what helps :)
