10 gallon tank? Shrimp?

I've been thinking of some sort of shrimp for my 10 gallon, in the future it will hold a sorority of, most likely, 5 females.

I'm really interested in amano shrimp, I would rather have those guy than ghost shrimp.

Are they like ghost shrimp, in that they don't contribute much to the bio load? How many would say, I could put in a 10 gallon tank? Also, what would I feed them to give them calcium?

As algae eaters they can not have as many their because of their diet needs I would say 3-5. Hard water and things like proper nutrition help. They have low bio-load but as algae eaters less is better.

I had ghost shrimp in with my first male Betta and they all slowly disappeared...I'm pretty sure my Betta ate them. I've also heard of shrimp getting feisty in warmer water and will attack the long fins of a male. I suppose it depends on your setup though, and how big the shrimp are.

I put some ghost shrimp in with my betta and one by one found headless shrimp floating at the top of the tank....he's a naughty boy. :I

Cherry shrimp work well. Low bio-load but have to feed algea wafers as they keep the place pretty clean. My Betta tends to leave them be unless he's bored, even then he only prods them till they dart of.

Careful though they tend to breed easily and, as i found out, get out of hand if not kept in check. THankfully the babies make good sport for Kraken to chase and eat. Keeps him nice and healthy :)
