The Betta Bug bit my mom and grandmother! While they were out hunting for gorgeous new fish (and I was stuck at work) they found this handsome boy and brought him and a new 10 gal tank home for me as an early birthday gift. He was labeled as a King Betta at Petco and is about 3 inches long. Most of the other ones I have seen were very dark colored so I was very surprised at his pink and blue tones. He's very timid and loves snuggling up to the leaves. I'm going to hunt some more decorations for his tank today. He needs a little cave or something. I've read what I can on here about King Bettas vs Giant Bettas but if anyone has some specific advice/experience they would like to share with me, I would really appreciate it!

Yes. It's 10 gal with a heater and a filter. I luckily had an extra filter and heater laying around. Still working on more decor/hiding spots for him. They literally only got me the fish and the bare tank lol. The filter doesn't have a very heavy flow of water output, I usually baffle all my filters (intake and output just to be safe), but he seems to like the water pouring on him. (He constantly is swimming under it.) So I'm just leaving it as is for now. I changed his name to Hagrid since he's so timid and gentle. :)

He is a cool king Betta also heard they do not sell very well.

I'm sure they don't. He's a very beautiful color but most of them in the stores that I have seen are very dark and plain. I had intended to get a king whether it was colorful or not but I know most people looking to buy bettas want very bright and colorful ones. He has a very sweet disposition, though. He's shy but pokes his head out of the leaves when he sees someone coming. He swims crazy fast! I would never put him in anything smaller that the 10 gal. I would love to make his tank a community tank but I haven't done that with a betta before so I'm just not sure about that.

What a beautiful boy you have :) The Petco by my hosue has a ton of colored Kings, Marbled, Cellophane etc.... I love seeing them o brightly colored because I am sure they find more homes.

Thank you all! I would love to see a marbled king! I bet he's gorgeous! If I had room in my house for more 10 gal tanks I would certainly have more. I love his personality.

My Betta Carter sure does swim even with those long fins.

Wow very nice betta. My Petco doesn't sell ones that are of different colors besides that brownish red. But I went to one where they kept a happy king betta in a 1 gallon. Not sure if it was heated but he swam around a lot.

Anyways beautiful fish and bless you for giving him a good home.
