Aww D: That's how I feel about my mom's fish, since her kids do most of the caring. X)

Technically they do not 'sleep'
But they do rest. Their system slows down.

don't they shut down only half of their brain at a time during their pseudo-sleep function?

Oh yeah they can XD some are deeper sleepers than others, for example, my betta Blueberry sleeps super lightly, as soon as there is movement he wakes. While Cheshire is more like "I won't wake till 9am " XD

Usually when my betta sleep, they lay on a plant, stay still and reach up their mouths for air from time to time. While Cheshire sleeps in his pot? I dunno he likes staying in there lol

Aww, Cheshire's so cute! :D
Juan Pablo seems to wake when I run my hand along his bowl, like your Blueberry. ^^

It takes my mollies a while to wake up. I wave my hand in front of them and there is no reaction. After a few seconds they kinda perk up thought lol. Bettas love to rest on things so I assume in their little caves they sit on the gravel. Otherwise they are probably having a party by themselves in there; I mean who knows? I don't disturb them in there lol.

I think fish can also fish, or at least rest, during any time in the day. You can tell if they are not moving even if you approach them and sit real still. Yes their eyes are open but they are resting.

Haha, if he's having a party, I want in on it! :)

Yeah, I've noticed river fish just chilling in the open (though camouflaged) . Guess they do it too ^^

mine likes to sleep in the roots of his pothos plant at the top of his tank but sometimes he will borrow down in the gravel and sleep under his artificial plant at the bottom of the tank. the 1st time he did it I thought he was dead, scared the crap out of me. hes really funny 1st thing in the morning though b/c he knows thats when he gets fed so hes wiggling and thrashing all over the bowl when I turn on the light cuz he knows foods on the way. throughout the day he alternates between exploring his tank and resting in his roots. but if I walk into the kitchen (where his tank is) he usually rushes up to glass flaring his gills at me, its funny. my friends all get such a kick out of him cuz he thinks hes so vicious!
