Algae Eaters?

One of my betta's tanks is near a window so in the morning the sun is usually on it, and algae grows on it pretty quickly, I was just wondering if an algae eater would be a good tank mate for him

My betta was great with my algae eater (little otto), they never bothered with each other. I wouldn't worry about putting one in with your betta. Good luck :)

oh and my tank is only 2 gallons though, would that be enough room?

I would go with a snail. Otos prefer to be in groups of at least 3. That being said, a group of three in a 2 gallon would, in my opinion, be way too much. I would just stick with the snail. However, I have heard of bettas sometimes going after the snails so be aware of that. But for the most part he should be fine with one or two.

I think that might be too small for even a snail since they are poop machines.

I've heard of them being kept in a tank that size successfully. Just means the tank will need more water changes and/or a filter if they don't already have one.

to house a snail successfully in a 2 gallon... you will need a well filtered planted tank.

That said. I do recommend an amano shrimp as very few snails eat the algae that grows on tank walls.

I'd go for a nerite snail, those guys are algae eating machines. But you will also have to supplement them with fresh veggies such as zucchini or algae tabs. I got suction cup clips and use those to hold slices of zucchini in the tank. Great little snails in my opinion. Nerites also won't lay eggs and reproduce in your tank because they need brackish conditions to have eggs hatch.

You will want to up the water changes to make up for the increase in waste production by the snail. You could also get an algae sponge and scrub it off as it grows if you don't want to worry about overloading the bioload in your tank.

You learn something new every day! I had no idea Otos liked to be in groups of 3 or more. I'll have to go get my guy a couple buddies I think.

ottos need atleast 10 gallons, and snails need more because of their heavy bioload. You can have no other tank mates in that small of a "tank".

You are better off just scrubbing it off, and not having to do more water changes.

Plecos can grow up to 2 feet, and need atleast 100 gallons for a fully grown one.
