quitting smoking

my plan is to have totally quit by my son's first birthday. (nov 9) this is my big birthday present for him. i figured that everyone will get him lots of clothes and toys, which he'll outgrow and get bored of within a few months, but having his daddy around for him is a present that will last a lifetime. i'd hate to one day not be there because i inhaled too many burning plants and got cancer. last weekend i cut myself down from a pack a day to half a pack a day (10 cigarettes) and as of yesterday i'm at 1/3 pack. (7 cigarettes) i'm gonna do that number this week, then cut down to 4 a day next week, then one in the morning and one at bedtime, then be totally done. i'm really excited about this.

I hope you make it also if you focus more on other things you should forget.

That sounds like an absolutely wonderful endeavour, best of luck with it! It seems like you're doing very well so far.

All I can say is Good luck! I love what you are doing.
My dad smokes and he smokes around all of us, sad part is, what he is doing is hurting his family more than himself.

If my dad quit & quit for good for my birthday/christmas I would be ecstatic.

Good luck, I've got my fingers crossed for you! I'm a smoker too and am dreading the day that I have to find the massive willpower to quit for the sake of my future child(ren) and husband. My father used the nicotine patches/gum when he was quitting and said they really helped. If quitting cold turkey is intimidating, you might want to give them a try. I was so proud of my father when he quit, which was a huge deal for him since he'd been smoking since age 14, and I'm sure your son will be just as happy when he gets a bit older and hears the story :)
