Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed?
Coral was very pale, Gigi was kinda pale but not to the extent of Coral.
How has your betta fish's behavior changed?
This started last Tuesday with a supposed healthy new white female betta. The day after adding her, she hung out at the surface of the water, lethargic, rapid breathing not eating, then died later that night. We attributed this to stress, as sometimes happens with new fish.
The next one to die was Gigi who displayed the same symptoms on Wednesday, and died friday.
Next up was Coral, who was displaying none of these symptoms and appeared completely healthy. She was discovered dead on Saturday around 2pm.
Then on Friday Sterling started acting weird, not eating, staying in one corner of the tank only moving to get air. I was finally able came over and diagnosed Sterling with Dropsy, as she was pine coning. We started dosing the tank with Maracyn II as recommended on this site.
Saturday/friday night one shrimp died.
Today, Sterling, Pineapple, and Casper have disappeared, and all shrimp are dead.
When did you start noticing the symptoms?
Wednesday last week.
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how?
Adding the recommended doses of Maracyn II starting yesterday.
Told my brother to do a big water change, and remove as much as he felt comfortable.
While doing the water change, he removed Derpina, and found Casper alive and well.
All corydoras are fine and have had no problems.
Does your fish have any history of being ill?
No, as this is a relatively new tank.
How old is your fish (approximately)?
Under a year. All fish were bought at either Petco or Petsmart.
