Playing Dead...

A few weeks ago I bought a marimo moss ball for the tank and everything seemed fine until I found my fish laying on his side on top of the marimo a few days later.
I gently tapped on the tank to see if he was responsive and he immediately started swimming around like normal. I checked the water and all my levels were fine, but I did a partial water change anyway just to be safe.
A week or so goes by without incidence before I come home from class one day and see him laying on the marimo again! This time he started swimming around again when he saw me moving near the tank. I did the same thing as the first time and the levels were perfect, but still did another partial change.

It's been a few weeks and I've seen him do this 3 other times. Should I be concerned? Or is my fish just being a jerk...

Marimo moss balls are the Lay-Z-Boy chairs of the betta world

He's not being a jerk he's resting!

You think so?

It just worries me a bit because he's on his side when he lays on the marimo and I've never seen a fish just DO that before.

Bettas can sleep/rest in the strangest positions. Don't worry about it, mine likes to sleep in a crevice she made next to one of her plants or right on top of the root bulb. She'll lay there completely motionless, that is until I get my camera, then she's right up at the glass wiggling like crazy like "Here I am, take my picture"

If he's otherwise fine when not snoozing on his moss ball. I wouldn't worry. And consider that a worthwhile purchase! It means he's super happy and is using it as a bed.

My first crowntail would do that too! It freaked me out at first but it was just normal to him I guess lol... if he seems healthy I would say he is fine

I had a crowntail that used to slide himself under a silk plant and the bare floor of his 1 g. He liked being squished.

They have quirks.

My betta likes to burrow into his Cryptocoryne plant. He's usually bent sideways and buried head first into the plant. The first time I saw him like that I thought for sure he was dead. But apparently he just really likes his plant.
