Hi, I'm a 30 year old construction worker who likes cats, babies and old people.
I had various kinds of fish as a kid, but the ones that I really felt a connection with were bettas. At around 13, I pretty much stopped with the fish thing, and have had a small betta-sized hole in my heart until recently.
About a month ago, my father-in-law won a couple of goldfish for my daughter at a festival and the poor guys didn't even make it a day (not surprising). As I committed their bodies to the porcelain god, I started thinking about how much fun I had caring for my fishies when I was younger, and how much fun it would be to show my daughter how to care for a beautiful animal and watch it grow.
So basically, I've been lurking at this site for about a month, trying to supplement my rudimentary knowledge of bettas. I bought what appeared to be a 5 week old betta a couple weeks ago, and am thoroughly enjoying the feeling of being a betta-owner again. My daughter is fascinated with it, and even my wife who's impartial to fish is totally enamoured.
Thanks for letting me be a part of this great site, it's bursting with great information and neat ideas.
