Is it a male betta with 2 other female bettas and an algae eater? If so, bettas are hostile to one another and should not be housed together ragardless of gender, besides the purpose of breeding. In breeding, however, only 1 female is present. So if there is a male with your females, remove the females or the male immediately.

Is it all the fins or just one? Does your fish seem lethargic in anyway or any other behavior changes?

My girl's tail was clamped for no apparent reason for about a week - it had a lot of extra slime coat on it as well. Now today, it's unclamping and the extra slime coat is coming off. She had no change what so ever in her behavior, unlike when she had velvet and just floated, unmoving at the top of the tank for 2 weeks.
