Probably from that accidental overfeeding. He's most likely still digesting his food. To make sure he doesn't get constipated, you can put him into 1 tsp of epsom salt per gallon. Best to do that in a hospital tank, though.

Can I still feed him normally? How would the snails react to the epsom salt. I plan on moving the mystery snail to my 5.5 NPT anyway. Phew. I'm glad it's not a big deal. :)

I'd fast him for a day and if you can, try to do the epsom salt treatment in a hospital tank. Otherwise, move the snailie.

Going forward, consider fasting him one day a week as a routine. It's not bad if Velvet rejects freeze-dried; those aren't great. Maybe try frozen bloodworms. They are a once a week treat, but would give you a bit of variety.

Try feeding one pellet per feeding; since betta stomachs are usually the size of their eyes, and pellets most of the time are the size of their eyes.

Thanks for the advice. It looks like he is developing SBD, I am heading out tonight to get some espom salt. So, 1 tsp a gallon? Do I need to take the snail out?

Start with 1 tsp per gallon and if that has no effect, you can bump it up to 3 tsps. I'd take the snail out to be sure. I don't know how snails react to epsom but I know most of them don't like meds.

Last night I took out the snail, and I put the 5 tsp in. I mixed it together in a cup of tank water first, though.

He didn't look like he'd changed at all so I added the extra 2 tsp per gallon last night. He has perked up a bit this morning. :)
