I tried these... did not go well. They never sprouted, and they rotted and made the water gross and smelling like a sewer. Luckily, i fished them out and cleaned the tanks thoroughly. Complete waste of money, in my book. Now the only plants I bother with are floaters. PS - I love my giant duckweed and water wisteria: plus, wisteria can be grown floating, planted, or emersed.

It depends on brand and species.

OKAY...here's my experience with them...

Have gone to Petco twice and bought "betta bulbs"...the ones in the light blue packages that come with 3 bulbs.

The first pack I bought did not bloom at ALL. I think part of it was also because it was really cold, I put them in little cups by the window with now heating.

Second time, I put them in a bowl that my female's in. It has no substrate, receives indirect sunlight...within a few days two of them started growing shoots, and after that they bloomed like CRAZY. One even produced flowers.

One didn't grow. The good thing is that if you save your receipt, you can send it back to the company and they'll exchange it for you with another bulb.

yeah i heard the ones from walmart (diff brand) had mixed results as well but that thier customer service was great and if u saved the receipt they would make it right and usually send u MORE than u bought, so I MIGHT give them a whirl, Im still exploring my options...thanks for the info on the wisteria I may have to look into that. I want something to pretty much just float in the water under the pothos roots but above his artificial plant. basiclly to just fill in some of the empty space ya know. think he would hang out in that area more if he has some hidey spots
