Then stick to one fish per tank, unless you upgrade to something bigger.~

Will stick to one fish. Like you say, he doesn't mind, correct?

If you put a piece of glass over the tank he won't be able to get fresh air.

He's getting fresh air because the lid doesn't sit flush on top of the tank. So I believe he's getting continual streams of fresh air. That's not the problem. The problem is that is he going to be lonely in there if I'm not here in the house?

And it's a good-size tank for one fish. 5 gallon I believe. He looks very happy in there right now, traipsing on top of his new hangout spot on the top lip of the heater he loves so much. He looks so peaceful and at ease I'd hate to spoil his pleasure in any way.

Betta don't really need a companion. And i actually had the same accident. I brought new betta at work and put his container next to small tank that i had withmy old betta. I left the office for 45 min and when i came back my old betta was on the table for all that time. He didn't make it even though he still was alive. So don't worry about him being lonely. Just make sure he has enough air and clean water, good food he will be happy.

Thanks. And I've removed the lid over the tank, hoping my remaining betta won't jump over the top of it. It got too hot for him in there.

Yes I had two but luckily they were separated by a thin glass partition in the same tank you see here. They never got to touch each other, but they were always pretty close to each other! Morning, noon and night the anticipated battle raged.
