I can't tell with those pictures, as it all depends on camera angle, distance, etc..
Not saying he isn't, but it's hard to say with the pictures.
You will find them once in a while at Petco/Petsmart, but they tend to be labeled as Giants.
You will see a significant size difference between fish who are even just a few months age difference.
i.e - (for normal sized bettas) a 5 month old will be half the size of a 9 month old.. a part of it depends on the care they receive as fry/juveniles on how fast they grow, etc. And in the fish world, hours in hatch times makes a huge difference- from one spawn, an fry hatches at 1pm, and another at 6pm, the size difference in those fry as they grow will be very noticeable.
The 2 inches whole one just sounds like a young guy, the 2 inches body sounds like an average adult..
