How does your betta flare?

My old and one of my first betta Eggbert (SIP) used to flare quite hard when he would, but also he would open is mouth as wide as he could while flaring. (Lol it kinda looked like he was yelling) Originaly I thought it was just how bettas flared, but I have never seen any of my other betta's ever flare like that. Anyone elses betta do that or anything else when flaring?

Bettas flare at the wild to protect their territory. They usually bite their lips and fins when the fight so it is normal for a betta to open their mouth when flaring.

My Betta when he flare all he does if flap his tail and turn sideways only the only time when he opens his mouth is when he's trying to bite the pen(that's what use to make him flare)

Bowser, my fiesty combtail will explode into a crimson fire and dart all over the tank with his beard puffed out if I point a pen at him. He doesn't do it if you point your finger at him though...

Lude sort of comes at you side on, he will display his fins and beard but he doesn't move quick, sort of just waves side to side daring you.

I like the different ways bettas flare bc it adds to their unique personalities :)

Our males will get really big and swim sideways darting from one end of the tank to the other. 2 of our females will try and bit whatever is used to make them flare (usually a pen or when seeing the males)
