Well, you have a couple of options here.

1. Not feed him for a few days to see if his belly goes down. Try getting him to flare at a mirror, too.
2. The Epsom Salts as LTB has already suggested.

If the fasting doesn't work, then you'll need Epsom Salt. You can buy it at pretty much any pharmacy (you're in Canada, so I don't know what you guys have their as far as pharmacies) and Walmart, if you have those.

I don't think the spider will hurt him, depending on what kind it is.

Mine ate a moth the other day. I freaked out and thought he was bloating so I fasted him for a couple days. Gave him one pellet to make sure he still had an appetite. He's back to normal sized today. I only found out cause I found the wing. Silly fish.
