Just out of curiosity as I don't want to overload my tank, can I add a golden mystery snail to this?
5.5 gal heated and filtered soil based NPT planted with
-cardimine
-wisteria
-anubia
-duckweed
-moneywort
-anacharis
-banana lilly
-micro sword
-mint charlie
Livestock:
1 MTS (it hasn't multiplied yet as I just put the single one in 1 week ago)
2 ghost shrimp
1 non-aggressive male betta
I just love the look of the golden mystery snails... they're really quite pretty...
I'd warn you against the snail, unless you have lots of blanched veggies for it to snack on. Otherwise they will destroy your plants. I've seen it happen time and time again. And if you get a cana apple snail... well you won't have a plant left.
I can get veggies, that's not really a problem... how many times do you suggest I feed, say... a piece of cucumber... a week? I also have some algae wafers that were given to me
I've been looking on applesnail.net and the mystery snails should leave thriving plants alone but eat dying and decaying bits and can be fed with veggies and algae tabs and regular fish flakes... so I may go get one next friday
I have two apple snails in two different tanks and have not had any problem with them wiping out plants. They do slide around on algae-covered leaves, which is enormously helpful to me. :-D
