I have the API Master Test Kit which tests for PH, High PH (usually needed for fish that prefer more alkaline water), Nitrates, Nitrites and Ammonia. I love it! I also bought one that tests the hardness of the water and one that tests for phosphates as I have a planted 10 gallon.

One thing about changing water that I once forgot and regretted was forgetting to unplug my heater...if you dont have the heater completely submersed in water at all times it WILL break and either make the water WAAAY too warm or just not heat the water at all.

My heater kept sizzling and making a weird noise. So I unplugged it and stuck it in water.
