Whoa... I didn't know there was different types of Corys

I was looking for them at Petsmart today and I found a good 4-5 different types!

Are they all the same for care and compatibility with Bettas?

There are hundreds of species of Corys. Their care is all pretty much the same, in my experience with the several varieties I've kept.

Yep, they're pretty much the same as far as care and betta compatibility goes. Except for the pygmies- they tend to be mid-level swimmers, not bottom dwellers. The real differentiating factor is their size- some can get pretty big- and your tank size.

some of them are hardier than others. some absolutely require a low ph with soft water. Others can handle a large range for ph and hardness.

+1 @Jexx pandas, for example, require a stable and established tank. Emerald and albino cories are hardier and can handle varied water parameters.

I have four emeralds in my 29 and I change 50% of the water monthly. They are still kicking lol

technically emerald corys are not corys. They are brochis splendens, a cousin. While similar, brochis can be differentiated from corys by their dorsal fins. Corys have seven or eight dorsal rays, and have a considerable gap between the their dorsal fin and the adipose fin. Brochis, on the other hand, have like 14 dorsal rays - their dorsal fin extends almost all the way back to the adipose fin.

The "cory" complex is comprised of corydoras, aspidoras, and brochis.

All species of corry are pretty much the same... over 360 species in total, and the care is the same.

They will even school together if you get four to five types. All are good tank mates for betta's but I would steer clear of the dwarf ones, unless you have a gentle betta or a calm one.

They are pretty cool. And love betta food.

I had kept multiple species in a 90 gallon and they did not school together - each group did it's own thing. Each species should have it's own school. Keeping a hodgepodge of fish is not advisable.
