White Fuzzy Stuff on wood?

Has anyone put a log or any type of driftwood (or other wood made for aquariums) have white fuzzy stuff on it? It literally got it within 24 hours and only on the side that the filter is on. The filter is a few inches away from the wood (tree thing) and thats the only side there is white stuff and A LOT of bubbles.

Nothing else seems off. Water quality and stuff is fine. Do you think its supposed to do that?

Nearly all driftwood will do that when it first gets added to an aquarium. It takes weeks to months for it to disappear. Usually it's due to an algal or bacterial bloom on the wood. Nothing to worry about. You can scrub it off if it bothers you.

I have read that it is sap coming out of the wood. Does it look like this photo? I remove the wood and rinse it off in the sink using an old toothbrush to get it off. It does go away after awhile. I have read that shrimp love to eat it.

yes! thats what it looks like. It doesn't seem to be bothering Junior but it's nasty looking lol. So if I get shrimp, they will eat it? Ew, shrimp lol. Thanks !
