Maybe I'm just a bit obtuse but I still don't understand why having a high post count matters to so many people. It should matter more about the quality of posts and not the quantity.

I agree. Maybe part of it is my fault. I have 41000+ posts but I've been a member here for 4 years and a moderator for 3 years.
