Do you think he is "over worrying"?

I've been wanting so bad to start my 75 gallon and hubby just keeps putting it off. I'm getting tired of it getting put off, ESPECIALLY when hubby promised me he'd build the lid for it.

Now his worry: he thinks that something will happen to the tank or the stand and all the water will damage not only our apartment but possibly the neighbors' items downstairs.

I do not believe this tank is that old, but it was a secondhand tank. The stand appears to be homemade. The wood is thick and appears to have been put together well.

These are the corners: This is definitely a glass tank; should I replace/or add more silicone?

From what I can feel, I think there is very little to none.

hhhmmmm....neither. It's like it was scrapped off.

Funny thing is I've filled it before/had water in it for a good amount of time.(few months?)

I could understand my husband's concern if he actually saw what I had just seen tonight. Alas, he hasn't.

Eh, I'd avoid all the GE, last I heard they all have mildew resistance now, I'm unsure.. I paid $2 more for silicone at the pet shop..
Look up YouTube videos on resealing the tank. The edges have to be perfectly clean- new silicone doesn't stick to old silicone at all.

Maybe that is what the previous owner may have been attempting? I don't think silicone could fall apart that much. I mean, if the fish eat it, maybe.

Mildew resistance is a poison that kills mildew, and fish.
Probably, at this point it does look like it has to be done, even if you've filled it. I've seen a couple "help my tank exploded overnight on my floor" threads on TFK before, never hurts to be sure..

I think he is probably worrying because 75 gallons is a lot of water to go onto the floor. I only had around 40 or so litres (10 gallons) pumped out of my tank from an internal filter and our rumpus floor went all swollen in places and stunk like a swamp for a couple of weeks after that.

Personally I would not use a second-hand tank with dubious silicone joining. Just heard too many horror stories to take the risk with my stock and floor. Even resealing would make me leery.

Bigger second-hand tanks always seem to go for really cheap here. I regularly see 6ft tanks going for under $100 because they are harder to move than something smaller. It might be easier and cheaper just to buy another tank (not the stand) and use that instead depending on where you are.

If not you definitely have to scrape out all the old silicone before attempting any work, as new silicone will not join to old silicone as Olympia has said.
