Low oxygen in tank and bubble nests

Hi, I tested the oxygen in my 6 gallon Betta tank and it is 2mgl which is very low. I know Betta's don't enjoy too much water movement so the bubbles that come out of the sponge filter are very mild and do not create a lot of water movement.

How can I increase the oxygen in the tank?

Also I have had my Betta just over 3 weeks and he has never made any bubble nests, does that mean he is unhappy?

bettas get 90% of their oxygen from the surface, so there's no need at all to oxygenate their water.

males, yes, females, sometimes. My female makes small, random bubble nests in her tank, while my male makes a very obvious, planned out ones around his plants and filter. But if he's not making bubble nests, that's not necessarily a bad sign, he could still be very young. Some males won't make bubble nests until they mature, and others won't do it unless there is a female present.

Mine rarely bubnlenests or the filter destroys it. What's your temp? Bettas can actually drown from lack of surface access. So they should be okay.

My temp is 26c/78.8f.
I use a sponge filter powered by an air pump, not a lot of water movement.

Not all betta's make bubble nests, just depends on their personality. One of mine has only ever made 2, the others make them after every water change
