Exclamation Strong filter current help?

Please help. Im new to this and want to provide my betta with a great home. I recently put together a new tank for him, but the filter's current seems to be pretty strong. I know that I can add a sponge to slow it down so...
My Questions are:
1. What type of sponge should I use?
2. Where exactly does it go?
3. When should it be replaced?

Thanks for any and all help

I use the AquaClear sponge. Works really good. You can place it either on the intake and outtake or you can just place it on the outtake. Only replace it if it falls apart.

What kind of filter do you have btw?

Thank you. It is a Aqueon power filter for a 10gal. I bought an entire kit that included that and a heater.

By output, that is the part where the water comes out of?

Correct. Just modify the foam/sponge so it fits into the outlet of the filter.

Okay, great! One more thing, my mom gave me what is called a Aquamesh filter media. She uses it for her goldfish tank and gave me some of it. Would this be safe to use? It's brand new.
