Yes, it is possible. Mine was labeled male, and she's most definitely a girl (no bubble nests, gets vertical breeding stripes, and has released eggs at least once). On the other hand, some males do get a white spot, especially young ones. And after doing some research, I found it is becoming so common for males to have one that in Betta shows, if a male Betta has a white spot, he is automatically disqualified.
