sometimes problems can be temperature induced and it is very important to know your temperature :)

for most of us, glancing at the thermometer has become second nature whenever we go up to our tanks!

I am too! I think i'm just going to get a different heater, one that allows me to set the temperature because I believe the one I have now works fine. But the heater stops when the water is too hot and when it's too cold, it heats up. I don't like that since it could cause stress on my fish.

thats what all heaters do....
hit a certain temperature, them switch off, when the temp goes down it switches on again....
