Has anyone had any experience with API Melafix?

I haven't used it, but I've heard that it can damage a betta's labyrinth gland making it hard for them to breathe. I think that bettafix is a little better because it is in a lower concentration so it is harder to overdose and hurt your betta.

Do NOT use it or anything else ending in -fix (including bettafix) on a betta. They contain tea tree oil, which can damage the labyrinth lung organ in bettas and cause them to drown. They contain mild antisceptic properties that are better delivered to bettas through the use of Indian Almond Leaf and aquarium salt.

I second that. I used it a loooong time without problem but why take the risk.
Depending on the problem aq salt is generally good for external problems, epsom for internal bloating/SBD and indian almond leaves are good all the time for prevention.

What about API tetracycline?

I don't know what that is, but I think someone here uses it.
I found THIS:Hi Ufishy! Maracyn contains erythromycin, which is effective against gram-positive bacteria. Tetracycline and ampicillin both treat mostly gram-positive bacteria and some gram-negative ones.
Fin rot is caused by gram-negative bacteria. There are several medications that target that type specifically. One good one is Maracyn-Two, which contains minocycline. Another good one is nitrofurazone, which is found in Furan 2 and Jungle Fungus Clear (even though the name says "fungus," the ingredients are antibacterial).

Another good med for fins is Triple Sulfa. I used it for my betta's severe fin rot and it worked well.
