It may seal back together. I've seen them regrow almost completely shredded fins in a matter of two weeks.

Sorry I have a lot of questions...
When I got 'The Kraken', he had horrible looking fins. Torn, clamped, rotted...you name it, he had it. I could hardly tell he was a betta. He didn't even look like the same fish a week later. I don't see any scarring on him. You should watch those black edges, though. Some black and red bettas have black edges as part of their coloring, but it doesn't hurt to be cautious in case it is fin rot.

Off topic, but you might want to get a new thermometer when you can. I had one of those sticky ones and it was 5 degrees off.

okay- I will go to the pet store today and get a new thermometer and some aquarium salt to help with the cut (and if he has fin rot)

Tested my water
ph- 7.0
ammonia- 0
nitrite- 0
nitrate- 5.0
Also put salt in his tank! He is really happy now

I'm glad to hear that! It sounds like your tank is cycled. Be sure to do water changes and don't let your nitrates get over 20ppm. It's best to keep them at 0 if you can :)
