breeding veiltail is not a bad thing! I bred CT x VT, came out with a male who has very good finnage for a VT, with the smallest of spiky rays on his caudal, and it's mainly apparent on his dorsal. VT is used for many reasons, and as long as you make sure the VT has good finnage it does not turn out in disaster. I picked a female with very good fins, for that reason.
Vt is used for various reasons... to lengthen fins is usually the most common reason to bring in VT. You would probably result in wider finned VT which you could breed back to the father, and obtain some nice fish :)
If you decide CTxHM it is not as scary as it seems. Agreed, some fins may be messy and undesirable, but that is how you learn. half suns are quite pretty.
